Adapting our society, infrastructure, agriculture, and natural environment to the already noticeable and irreversible impacts of climate change represents one of the central challenges of our time. The Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature of the State of Schleswig-Holstein is laying the foundation for a sustainable, climate adaptation-oriented future of the state by convening the Youth Forum on Climate Adaptation Schleswig-Holstein. As the effects of climate change will persist in the long term, the development of a comprehensive climate adaptation strategy is essential. Young people will be particularly affected by these impacts, which is why they play a central role in evaluating and shaping adaptation measures. For this reason, young adults aged 16 to 24 are at the heart of this process.

The aim of the participation process is to bring together three groups at three locations in Schleswig-Holstein over two days each, at the beginning of 2026. The same content will be addressed at all locations. Young adults will engage intensively with the state’s climate adaptation strategy. They are expected both to evaluate the proposed measures and to set priorities themselves. The everyday realities of young adults are central to this process and are intended to provide valuable insights and new perspectives.

The nexus Institute has been commissioned to design and organise the Youth Forum on Climate Adaptation Schleswig-Holstein.
