Focus on the common good and sustainability at nexus

Through our activities, we make an active contribution to the sustainable development of society. We actively shape cooperation and dialogue processes and function as mediators in conflictual situations. Even in projects without an obvious sustainability focus, our aim is to address the ecological and social challenges of our time. We therefore always endeavour to adopt a sustainability-oriented approach in our project proposals, participatory concepts within the framework of set project goals.
Within the company, our goal is to reduce our use of resources to a minimum. Our endeavours to achieve greater sustainability are reflected in the following measures:

  • Supporting employees’ climate-friendly mobility within Berlin and on business trips through a subsidised public transport ticket and the subsidised offer of a job bike
  • Reducing energy consumption in the office by using energy-saving appliances and lighting
  • Environmentally friendly material procurement and waste avoidance
  • Sustainable event management in accordance with the guidelines for the organisation of events issued by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV)
  • Provision of healthy food for employees in the office
  • Additional private pension scheme financed by nexus for employees
  • Offer of company-financed private supplementary health insurance

We were certified within the framework of the German common good network in April 2024. Over the course of several months, we took an in-depth look at the social, ecological and economic impact of our activities as part of a common good balance sheet*. This involved asking ourselves critical questions of how our work is financed, the nature of our cooperation within the institute as well as with customers, partners and competitors. To us, this first comprehensive examination of our activities represents a milestone on our path to a better and sustainable future in which not only individuals are well off, but society as a whole. The full Common Good Report can be read here.

*The common good balance sheet forms the core of the common good economy, which places the common good at the centre of all (economic) activities. For this reason, the common good balance sheet does not measure corporate success in terms of financial profit, but in terms of an organisation’s contribution to the common good.
