The nexus Institute is evaluating the launch of the BIÖG Youth Advisory Council on behalf of the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG).

The Youth Advisory Council brings together 20 young people from all over Germany to contribute their perspectives to the development of health promotion and prevention measures and to advise the BIÖG on issues relevant to young people. The goal is to structurally embed youth participation in the field of public health.

The formative and summative, multi-perspective evaluation approach assesses the implementation and quality of the participation processes, the effectiveness of the Youth Advisory Council, and how youth participation can be sustainably embedded within a federal agency. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines document analysis, quantitative online surveys, qualitative interviews and focus groups, participant observation, and participatory methods, the nexus Institute is working with stakeholders to develop practical recommendations for the further development and sustainability of the Youth Advisory Council. In a synthesis and review workshop, the results of the evaluation will be validated together with the young people and staff of the BIÖG.
