The Austrian innovation program “Mobility of the Future” ran from 2012 to 2021. It was one of the first so-called mission-oriented programs, aiming to achieve long-term societal, environmental, and economic impacts. Within this program, a wide range of initiatives and projects were funded using various support instruments — including innovation labs and endowed professorships, as well as traditional R&D (research and development) projects.

Several evaluations have already been conducted. Our project focuses on an impact evaluation of the entire program, with a particular emphasis on the years 2017 to 2021. Our project partner, KMU Forschung, is responsible for conducting a quantitative analysis of the available data. We are carrying out the qualitative research by developing case studies of high-impact initiatives. In the final phase, we will organize several focus groups to synthesize the program’s effects across key cross-cutting themes. Based on these discussions, we will formulate recommendations for future RTI (research, technology, and innovation) mobility programs.
