The Berlin Housing Dialogue, organized by nexus on behalf of the Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction, and Housing in Berlin, and in cooperation with the Planergemeinschaft für Stadt und Raum, aims to bring together the entire spectrum of Berlin stakeholders in the housing sector through various participatory formats and to reflect on current housing-related technical and policy issues.

The goal of this project is to specifically promote dialogue among various stakeholders from civil society, tenant organizations, government administration, politics, and the housing sector, and to create a framework through various participatory formats that fosters an exchange on housing policy issues among equals. At the same time, the process supports networking among the participating stakeholder groups. In this context, formats such as pop-ups in public spaces, online surveys, workshops, and neighborhood discussions are conducted. This is preceded by a participatory topic-identification phase, during which the topics for the dialogue formats are selected to best reflect the needs of Berliners. The process concludes with a phase of consolidation and a final dialogue. During this phase, the results are compiled and evaluated and consolidated once again through online participation as well as a stakeholder roundtable or workshop discussion. Finally, they are presented at a closing conference.

The nexus Institute is carrying out this process in collaboration with the planning consortium and is supported by the video production company co3film in the production of selected online communication formats. In addition to providing process support, the focus is primarily on the design and facilitation of participatory formats intended to systematically bring together different perspectives. This helps to highlight conflicting goals, facilitates a collective, expert-led discussion, and enables the development of joint solutions.
