Laura Drechsel studied civil engineering at TU Dresden and transport, infrastructure and logistics at TU Delft, where she completed her master’s degree. Her interest in mobility and space ranges from analysing larger contexts, for example using data, macroscopic perspectives and needs analyses, to the individual experiences of people in their everyday lives. After all, behind every journey is an individual with his or her own experiences and challenges. In her master’s thesis, she therefore examined how older people in Rotterdam get around and how they perceive their accessibility, with a particular focus on the interactions between physical accessibility and social factors.
Before joining the nexus Institute, she worked as a mobility consultant at a Dutch consulting firm, supporting cities and municipalities with issues relating to sustainable mobility, such as walking and cycling. At the nexus Institute, she is a research assistant in the Space and Society department and is involved in the ELEVATE research project, which addresses urban and transport planning issues related to civilian delivery drones.
