Erik Ooms studied Spatial Planning at Radboud University Nijmegen (NL), European Spatial Planning at Blekinge Institute of Technology (SE) and European Studies at Centre International de Formation Européenne (CIFE). His research focussed on European cooperation in the field of urban planning and in particular on the topic of cooperation in the field of sustainable mobility.

After completing his master’s degree, Erik worked for various consultancies in the Netherlands and Germany. There he was responsible for project development, management and communication of projects in the fields of urban development, mobility, transport accessibility, innovation and maritime spatial planning. In his work, he focussed on governance, stakeholder integration and transformation. During his work, he gained experience with innovative methods related to policy transfer, co-creation and the development of visions and scenarios.
Erik Ooms has been a research associate at the nexus Institute since January 2025.
