The Ochsenteich site on the edge of Wernigerode’s city centre has been the subject of lively discussions since the early 1990s. Currently, the area is partly used as a car park. A fitness centre, cinema complex, large car park, event centre, a glass workshop for the Harz narrow-gauge railway or an age-appropriate “Vitapark” have all been discussed. Nothing has changed yet. With active citizen participation, new perspectives for the future of the Ochsenteich area are now to be developed. nexus is offering two planning cells in which 50 citizens from Wernigerode will be randomly selected and invited. The aim is to find out the participants’ perspectives and ideas. The guests will work together in small groups to develop concepts for the possible use of the Ochsenteich site. The initiator of the planning cells is the Alliance for Democracy and Cosmopolitanism in Wernigerode. nexus cooperates with the Alliance and the Harz University of Applied Sciences. The city of Wernigerode actively supports the project. The planning cells will take place in March 2013, the project conclusion with the handover of the citizens’ report is planned for June 2013.
