The first Climate Assembly to combat air pollution in Skopje got off to a successful start on 17 February with 65 participants. The aim of the Citizens’ Council is to discuss and plan measures to improve air quality in North Macedonia’s capital which is among the most polluted cities in Europe.

Besides familiarising the participants with each other and the work-flow of the Climate Assembly, the kick-off event focused on exploring and prioritising the most important topics in the areas of energy, mobility and public health. To this end, the citizens received input from an expert and discussed which topics were most pressing and important to them.

The Climate Assembly will continue its work over the next two months in five further meetings and draw up recommendations for the administration and politicians.
