The competition “Sowing Ideas – Reaping the Future” of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) has encouraged young people to present their new ideas, initiatives, actions and projects for a good life in rural areas. How can the quality of life in rural areas be secured and even improved? How can rural regions be designed to be attractive for young people in the future? What would have to change for young people to stay in the countryside or return there? These questions were the focus of the competition in which young people participated with innovative ideas from many areas of rural life such as education, work, family, leisure, agriculture, ecology and political engagement. Young people and youth groups from rural regions were invited to submit entries for the nationwide competition. Thematically, the entries were focused on rural areas. The competition offered the opportunity to present new ideas, initiatives, actions and projects for rural areas. nexus conceived and accompanied the competition “Ideen säen Zukunft ernten”, including all individual work steps, PR work and the preparation of a final brochure.

The official start of the competition was 1 May 2009, participants (groups or individuals) could submit their competition entries until October 2009, the jury met at the end of 2009, and the prizes were handed over by Federal Minister Ilse Aigner at the International Green Week in Berlin in January 2010.
