Project Description
Decision-makers discuss political framework conditions for the use of a new technology in the “Salon”.
The use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been the subject of intense and controversial discussion for several years. There is a broad spectrum of different perspectives and open questions.
What political framework conditions are necessary for the future use of RFID?
How can radio technology be introduced responsibly?
What productivity opportunities does the new technology create?
The 1st Berlin Technology Salon “On the way to the transparent product: Political framework conditions for the future of RFID technology” offered decision-makers the framework to discuss these questions in a future-oriented and concrete way and to develop concepts.
The Technology Salon’s clients and hosts were the Representatives of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government and the METRO Group Future Store Initiative. Around 40 participants from politics, business, science and civil society discussed the political framework conditions for the further use and development of RFID technology in the Technology Salon. The goal: the formulation of a common position of all participants.
The meeting in the salon offered optimal conditions for a discussion “out of the box”, for overcoming differences in content and for the joint development of concepts – all in an artistically inspired, attractive setting. The nexus Institute organized and moderated the Technology Salon. The input paper was prepared in close cooperation with the Center for Technology and Society of the TU Berlin. Another cooperation partner of the event was the Informationsforum RFID e.V., which has been engaged in political dialogue with various interest groups for several years.
