Project Description
The Senate of the State of Berlin is seeking to promote citizens’ participation as a foundation of political decision-making and to involve citizens in Berlin’s development.
As a central component, guidelines for the participation of citizens in spatial urban development were developed from November 2017 to August 2019 by a working committee consisting of citizens, Berlin politicians and administration in a participatory process with the public in workshops on site and online at mein.Berlin.de.
In addition to supporting the communication process, nexus also accompanied the working committee’s work process. nexus and the Planergemeinschaft für Stadt und Raum eG provided information on guideline examples from other cities and participation examples from Berlin, moderated the working committee’s meetings, prepared the workshops and prepared the results for the guideline text. The Senate of Berlin decided on 03.09.2019 to present the guidelines, including the development of an implementation concept. Since October 2019 the Planergemeinschaft für Stadt und Raum eG and nexus have been accompanying the development of this concept, which is intended to provide a framework for the implementation of the guidelines by the Berlin administration.
