Maria Jacob studied sociology, psychology and economics in Halle (Saale) and Berlin. Based on her research interest, the sociology of technology and technology impact research, she dealt in her master’s thesis with algorithmic decision support systems in teh field of medicine and developed a catalog of criteria to examine the influence of those CDS systems on the autonomy of doctors to act and make decisions.

She previously worked at the Stiftung neue Verantwortung e.V. as a project assistant in the area of “AI and algorithms” and in the course of this worked intensively on topics of AI certification, auditing and examined the civil society ecosystem in Europe and the USA.

Since 2022, she has been working as a research assistant at the nexus Institute, where she is particularly active in the area of networks and society.
