In many eastern German regions, the situation regarding apprenticeships and jobs for young people has improved. In these regions, companies must now compete for trainees. This particularly affects growth and future-oriented sectors. The Federal Government Commissioner for the New Länder wanted to draw attention to this trend reversal with the project. The project motivated this with a youth competition and regional workshops. The competition encouraged young people to self-confidently consider the opportunities on the regional training and labour market and their regional living environment. What do we want? What does the region offer us? What do we still lack in order to see future prospects for ourselves in the region? The target group of the competition was schoolchildren and young people in eastern Germany between the ages of 14 and 19. Three one-day regional workshops brought youth groups and youth work together with training companies, associations and other actors and provided an opportunity for a lively exchange about the perspectives for youth in the region. The results of the competition and workshops were compiled in a brochure and are intended to stimulate long-term discussion on the topic of “Youth with Perspectives”.

“Youth with Perspectives” was a project of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) in cooperation with the German Federal Youth Council (DBJR) and was implemented by the nexus Institute. Information on the competition and workshops has been published on the BMI website since the end of 2011.
