Since the open spaces of the former Tempelhof Airport were opened to the public in 2010, the area has been used by Berliners and Berlin tourists in a variety of ways. At the same time, the ecologically significant area is secured as an open space for nature, species and climate protection and is to be preserved in the future. The nexus Institute was commissioned by Grün Berlin GmbH, which manages the park, to carry out visitor monitoring in order to learn more about the use of Tempelhofer Feld. The 2014 visitor monitoring comprised four components:

  • a quantitative visitor count,
  • a qualitative visitor survey using a standardised questionnaire,
  • the conception and implementation of focus group discussions as well as
  • the evaluation of the park supervision reports.

The analysis and findings from the different building blocks were finally summarised in a results documentation. The results thus obtained should lead to this unique open space satisfying different living conditions and needs today and also in the future, thus providing space for visitors of different ages, different origins and different interests.
